Medical-paper coating in Subang Jaya
Amcor opened a healthcare-packaging coating facility in Subang Jaya, Selangor, on Apr 23, 2026, following investment exceeding US$35 million. The Malaysian site adds air-knife coating for medical paper used in sterile medical-device packaging. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority facilitated the investment.
Closed-loop controls, quality monitoring and drying systems support production. Amcor's U.S. specialists assisted installation, commissioning and training. Regional president Chris Kenneally described a long-term commitment to Asia-Pacific healthcare customers.

An established Southeast Asian production network
The regional network includes Amcor's Tuas facility in Singapore, opened on Dec 1, 2021. That plant combines cleanroom manufacturing, three-, seven- and nine-layer co-extrusion blown-film capability, and flexographic printing. Amcor identified ISO 13485 certification for the Singapore operation when it announced the opening.
The company was also establishing a healthcare-film innovation centre at Tuas to develop co-extrusion technology and bring products to Asia-Pacific customers. Southeast Asia healthcare general manager Scott Jackson connected the investment with expanding product offerings and capacity for customer growth. The Singapore announcement described water-based printing without solvent emissions.
Packaging development and material selection
Amcor's packaging-development work also addresses paper strength and opening performance. In May 2025, healthcare product marketing manager David Heath identified fibre characteristics, including fibre length and binding, as considerations in tear resistance. The company's material-selection priorities included the following requirements:
- Barrier protection appropriate to the packaged contents.
- Compatibility with the intended sterilisation process.
- Seal integrity alongside ease of peeling.
Amcor associated precision coating and layering with manufacturing consistency, and described tensile evaluation among the tests used before production scale-up. Its examples of packaging formats included forming films and customised thermoformed trays. These development priorities concern material and package design; individual applications require their own selection and testing.

Local supply and customer collaboration
Construction completion had been announced on Apr 10, 2025. The subsequent opening expands an integrated manufacturing site. Amcor expects local production to support dual sourcing, quicker trials and pilot-to-production scale-up, with closer technical collaboration for regional customers.
The Tuas multilayer films were designed to support recycle-ready products. At the 2021 opening, Amcor also reiterated its commitment to develop recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025. That was a company-wide development pledge at the time of the Singapore investment.
