Manufacturing expansion in Cumberland County
SteelFab plans to invest more than $19 million in expanding its Fayetteville operations in North Carolina. The development will add 108,000 square feet and create 38 jobs in Cumberland County. Governor Josh Stein announced the project on 9 September 2026.
The additional space will contain three fabrication bays, two preparation bays and two shape lines, as well as an office and a break room. The area and employment figures describe the announced expansion. They are not evidence that the new space is already operating or that every planned position has been filled.

Structural steel fabrication
SteelFab supplies structural steel for commercial and industrial construction projects. The company operates 15 facilities and 17 offices across the United States. Its fabrication capacity reaches up to 2,000 tons of material each week across the company, rather than at Fayetteville alone.
Region president Rob Burlington described state and local grants as helpful to the expansion decision. He linked the investment to the company’s North Carolina origins and its continuing work supplying projects across the state and the East Coast. These are the executive’s stated reasons for the development.
Employment and conditional state support
The annual average salary for the new positions is expected to be $70,106, compared with the Cumberland County average of $47,175. Pay will vary by position. The planned employment could generate more than $2.6 million in annual payroll for the region.
SteelFab of Virginia has been awarded a $125,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund. Companies receive no money upfront under that programme. Payment depends on meeting job-creation and capital-investment targets, and matching local-government participation is required.

North Carolina Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley highlighted Fayetteville’s workforce, including transitioning military personnel and veterans. His comments concern the local recruitment environment; the project announcement does not specify how many of the 38 roles will be filled by those groups.
Project partners include the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the General Assembly, the Division of Workforce Solutions, the community college system, Fayetteville Tech Community College, Cumberland County, the city and local economic-development organisations.
