Androck joins the Ampcontrol brand

Androck Engineering & Mining began operating under the Ampcontrol brand on Mar 12, 2025, following its acquisition in May 2023. The integration brings the underground-mining engineering business further into Ampcontrol’s manufacturing operations in Australia. By the rebranding announcement, Androck had expanded to six workshops in Rutherford, New South Wales, and a 1,800-square-metre facility in Mackay, Queensland.

The business reported 106 employees and 33 apprentices after more than doubling its workforce since the acquisition. Ampcontrol managing director and chief executive Rod Henderson said a second shift at Rutherford was meeting customer demand. He linked the integration to retaining Australian manufacturing jobs and combining local expertise. Customers would gain access to machining through an independent computer numerical control machine shop. Ampcontrol operates 30 sites across Australia and in Hong Kong, Singapore and Mongolia.

Mechanical capability added through acquisition

Ampcontrol announced its purchase of Androck on May 16, 2023. At that point, the Hunter-based business operated five workshops in Rutherford. It serviced and overhauled underground equipment, including continuous miners, shuttle cars and multi-bolters, with capabilities spanning mechanical work and electrical repairs.

Androck was established in 2006 as a component-overhaul and repair business serving Australasian underground mining. It subsequently developed supply and manufacturing operations, including engineering and re-engineering work. Henderson said combining Androck’s mechanical and machining expertise with Ampcontrol would accelerate development of energy and electro-motion solutions. Its workshop capabilities included:

  • Machining and fabrication.
  • Hydraulic component work.
  • Electrical repairs and equipment overhauls.

A Queensland workshop before the rebranding

Androck’s expansion into Mackay preceded the change of name. On Jun 11, 2024, Ampcontrol announced the opening of the Queensland workshop. The site extended Androck’s regional presence beyond its New South Wales workshops and was intended to serve a growing client base in the north-east.

Henderson described the expansion as an opportunity for both Androck and the wider Ampcontrol group. He identified partnerships in key locations, innovation and further development of energy solutions supporting industrial decarbonisation as company aims. The Mackay opening formed a separate expansion milestone between the acquisition and the subsequent integration under one brand.

High-voltage services expand the Queensland network

Ampcontrol also expanded its Queensland service network through the acquisition of Protech Power. It took full ownership on Dec 11, 2024, and the acquired business began operating under the Ampcontrol name. Protech brought facilities in Brisbane and Townsville to the group.

Protech’s operations focus on high-voltage service and maintenance. Its customers span mining, power generation, infrastructure and agriculture. Ampcontrol identified that established position across Queensland’s industrial markets as the reason for purchasing the business, alongside its broader plans to expand services.

All Protech Power employees were to remain with the business as a condition of the sale. Existing products and services were also to continue unchanged within Ampcontrol’s offering. Those terms accompanied the transfer of ownership and adoption of the parent company’s name.

Henderson expected the transaction to combine expertise, broaden customer services and extend Ampcontrol’s Queensland footprint.
